davewill Posted December 7, 2009 Report Posted December 7, 2009 Over the last week or so there has been a very very strong smell in the car reminiscent of airline fuel I know the Aux Heater puts out a smell like this when getting hot, but this smell is a lot stronger than normal If i use the car first thing and then leave it all day locked up, the smell is still in the car when i use it in the evening. I havn't been doing many long runs over the last few weeks, so the car has not really got hot (see other thread on Not Much acceleration), do you think this could be a reason for the smell being so strong?? Thanks Dave Quote
edatelder Posted December 7, 2009 Report Posted December 7, 2009 Could it be the smell of screenwasher fluid? Check the carpets for wetness particulary in the front passenger side. Quote

Hi Thanks for the note Def not washer fluid and no dampness in car Its the same smell as when you walk out across the apron to board a plane I know it is an Aux Heater smell, but its just the stregth of it, way stronger than i have smelled before on this car or my previous Mkll, and now the kids are complaining ;) Quote
seatkid Posted December 7, 2009 Report Posted December 7, 2009 Fumes drawn into cabin - you need to check it out as it probably is dangerous. I seem to remember someone posted that their rear heater housing was damaged (maybe by heat) and was drawing in air from outside (it should be sealed and recirc air only.) Check if fumes/smell coming from rear heater or front heater. Quote

marinabrid Posted December 7, 2009 Report Posted December 7, 2009 we had a very strong of fuel a few weeks ago, turned out to be one of the little injector lfuel pipes that link to each other, made of braided rubber hose, one had split. Quote

davewill Posted December 8, 2009 Author Report Posted December 8, 2009 To the eberspacher auxilliary heater under the car near the rear passenger door. I have checked the mini exhaust and there are no loose pipes nor cracks etc I will check again after i have got the car warmed up, and try to find out from which end the smell is coming from Quote
